Trademark Abuse in Virtual Worlds

On the heels of my recent entry about the non-liability a web publisher regarding libelous content posted to that site by a third person, I saw a great entry today about how virtual worlds are rife with trademark abuse.

This is a very big problem for the rights holders because trademark law states that if you are not protecting your rights, you are implicitly abandoning them.

Thanks to Raph Koster, for the link to Virtually Blind. If I were you I’d subscribe to both those blogs.

    Great Info and threads.
It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out in the future.
US law also states that if you’re not protecting a patent you may own, you may loose protection for it and it could become public domain. That’s why we are seeing a lot more of the following stories involving, what was thought to be, “common knowledge”.
